Pair Windows XP/Vista With Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6

Before you can use your Windows Mobile device and your Windows XP or Vista machine together for ActiveSync or Internet Sharing, you need to pair the devices. It is easiest to pair the device from the desktop/laptop PC instead of the handheld.

These instructions were written using the native Windows Bluetooth software. If you are using a third party Bluetooth stack then they need to be adjusted as appropriate.

  1. Enable Bluetooth on the Windows Mobile device. This is usually done through the Communications Manager or in the Bluetooth settings.

  2. In the Bluetooth settings, enable the option to allow the Windows Mobile Device to be discoverable.

  3. On the PC, double click on your Bluetooth icon and choose Add.

  4. You need to enable the option to choose Next.

  5. The PC will then start scanning for devices.

Eventually it will find your PDA. In this example our JasJar has been found. Click Next.

  6. You will then be asked to enter a pass key. Choose the option to enter your own. This can be anything that you like, but remember that you are entering it on the PDA. Therefore a number is often easiest, and in this example 12345678 has been used. Click Next.

  7. The PDA should now beep with a message about your PC wanting to connect. Choose Yes.

  8. You will then be asked to enter the passcode. Enter the code entered on the PC in the step above and tap next.

  9. After the device has connected, you will see what services are available to the PDA from the PC. In this example ActiveSync is available already. Tap finish.
