Installing the Certificate Response

After you have been through the certificate request and application phase, you will get a certificate response, often by email. This response needs to be processed on the same virtual server that the request was made.

  1. If the certificate is attached to your email in the body, save the certificate that you have received in to a notepad file. You need to include everything including the lines -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE-----
If the certificate is attached as a separate attachment, save the file to somewhere that the server can access it.

  2. Open IIS Manager again and start the Certificate Wizard again.
Ensure that "Process the pending request and install the certificate" is selected. Press Next.

  3. Enter the path to the file that contains the response from the certificate supplier.

  4. Confirm the details on the next screen and complete the wizard.

If you are using Go Daddy certificates from http://www.certificatesforexchange.com/ then you will need to install a root and intermediate certificate on to your server as well. Instructions for doing that are here.
