Go Daddy Root Certificate

SSL Certificate Installation

If you are using a certificate from GoDaddy (from http://www.certificatesforexchange.com/) then you may experience certificate prompts in Windows Mobile.

These prompts will be about the certificate not being valid, or not being trusted.

The cause of these prompts is that you have the SSL certificates installed incorrectly on the server. This is easily corrected.

Which Certificate is Which?

Go Daddy supply two server certificates with their certificates. It is important that you know which is which, so that you install them in the correct location.

The root certificate is the certificate where the text says
"Issued To: Go Daddy Class 2 Certification Authority"
"Issued By: http://www.valicert.com/ "

The Intermediate certificate is the certificate where the text says
"Issued To: Go Daddy Secure Certification Authority"
"Issued By: Go Daddy Class 2 Certification Authority"

  1. First you need to bring up the Certificate MMC console on the server.
Click Start, RUN and type MMC, then press enter.

  2. In the Console, Choose File, Add/Remove Snap-In...

  3. Then choose Add...

  4. Select Certificates and choose Add.

  5. A short wizard will start. On the first screen, select "Computer Account".

  6. On the second screen, leave the default, "Local Computer". Then click Finish.

  7. The list of Snap-Ins will now include Certificates. You don't need any more, so press OK

  8. In the Certificates list, find the path "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and expand it.
On the Certificate element below, right click and choose Import...

  9. You will now be prompted for a certificate. Select the root certificate that you saved from the files supplied by GoDaddy earlier.

  10. After clicking Next, you will get a confirmation prompt.

  11. Repeat the process for the Intermediate certificate, placing the intermediate certificate in to the Intermediate Certificate Store.
