Broadband - Exchange Exchange and a Global Mailbox Folder Internal Email Address Options when a Staff Member Prerequisites for Exchange Switching From POP3 |
Author: Simon Butler, Exchange MVP, MCSE Last Page Review: 22/12/2006 There are lots of tools and utilities that you can use to help manage your Exchange server. Many of these you will want to install on to either your Exchange server or your workstation. Tools Supplied with Windows or Exchange Exchange Admin Tools - install from the Exchange CD and then run the same service pack that you have on your main Exchange servers. Remember to update them at the same time or before you deploy a service pack to the main Exchange servers. More information. Windows Support Tools - install from the Windows Server installation disk. Make sure that you are using the latest available - as supplied with the Windows service pack. Microsoft Supplied Downloads You can find most of the Microsoft Exchange Tools on Microsoft's web site here: Exchange Best Practises Analyzer - Probably the best tool released by Microsoft for Exchange. Can be run from either the server itself or a workstation. It will tell you what is wrong with the Exchange environment (if anything) and provide links to fixes. Maintained by Microsoft, the tool downloads updates from with new practises - so a tool that you can run with some regularity. Download. Outlook Web Access Administration - this is a web based tool that allows you to tweak some settings within OWA. Should be run from a machine other than the Exchange server. Download. Exchange User Monitor - a tool that shows you in near real time who is connecting to your Exchange server. Odd application - it installs in to \program files\exmon but doesn't put a shortcut anywhere. You have to create your own. Download. Third Party Tools and Utilities Setperm - a neat tool, sadly no longer supported, that lets you set permissions on Outlook folders from a central point. Use it with admodify to make bulk changes to your mailboxes. Download. Admodify.net - a tool that lets you make mass changes to the Active Directory. Download. An example of these two tools being used together can be found on our article about setting Calendar Permissions.
