Mobile - Working with Windows Mobile Devices

Author: Simon Butler, Exchange MVP, MCSE

With the release of Exchange 2003, Microsoft improved the support for Windows devices. With the subsequent release of Windows Mobile 5.0 and Exchange 2003 SP2 then Exchange 20007 and Windows Mobile 6, mobile working is much improved yet again. This section is to help Exchange server administrators configure and implement some of these new features for their users.

We have information that may be of use to Exchange administrators elsewhere on this web site.

Windows Mobile Emulator
The emulator is useful for initially working out how to configure the handhelds to work with your environment and then for ongoing support of the devices.

Working with SSL Certificates
To deploy a mobile solution securely, you need to use SSL certificates. This page explains two methods of getting a root certificate on to your device if it doesn't already have the one you need.

Synchronise any folder
Microsoft ActiveSync only allows you to synchronise a number of default folders. If you want to sync other folders or public folders then you need to look at third party tools. Pocket Mirror Professional is one tool that will do that: http://www.chapura.com/ another is Add2Exchange from Diditbetter.
